Promise of Light

Poetry, this vessel, this vessel that is pain just as much as it is love,
with it I am able to exist in this world, without it, I would surely fall.

(I'm a lot grayer these days...but still basically the same)

James Eric Watkins was first accepted for publication by Poetry Motel
in late 2002 and has been publishing (on e-zines and in print) and
performing his poetry and poetic speeches (at Southern Indiana libraries,
colleges, and universities) since 2003. James’ work has appeared in
Flutter, joyful!, Pegasus, Shemom, The Scioto Voice Newspaper,
Visions, Word Catalyst Magazine, The Shine Journal, Off the Lake,
Poetry by Moonlight, The Lunar Companion, and more . . . .

I started this site and small press to bring artists and ideas together.

Have no misconceptions: Financially, I am a  rather poor man.

But emotionally, however,
I am wealthy beyond my deserving,
in both happiness and sadness.

I consider myself a lucky man for many reasons, near-death experiences,
bouts of depression (that will always remain. I have accepted this.), addictions
I've conquered, friendships that I’ve made, for truly seeing beauty and pain
side by side in a balance of love, for the mother of my children, for my children....
But the fact that I know who I am; for this I am an extremely lucky man.

Using details sparingly, I’ll just say I’ve been through a lot, seen a lot, and am
fortunate be the man I am today, breathing, crying, feeling . . . so much.

Love has taught me how to live.

Now I live with the purpose to love.
